Critical Security Warning
Fake versions exist for one reason: to trick you into typing your 24-word recovery phrase. With those words, a scammer can move your funds, and blockchain transfers cannot be reversed.
Where the Official Download Lives
The genuine download page sits on Ledger’s main domain. From the homepage, open the Ledger Wallet section, or go to shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-wallet. Both are part of ledger.com.
To reach it safely:
-
1Type the domain yourselfType ledger.com into the address bar yourself instead of clicking an ad or a link in an email.
-
2Check the exact domain spellingCheck the domain reads exactly
ledger.com— not ledger.io, ledger-live.com, ledgerwallet-app.net or anything with extra words or hyphens. -
3Confirm SSL / TLS certificateConfirm the browser padlock is present and that the security certificate is issued to Ledger.
-
4Bookmark the official URLBookmark the verified page for future visits to ensure you never accidentally land on a look-alike page.
Desktop vs Mobile Sources
Always match the distribution platform with the verified publisher specifications:
| Platform | Where to get it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | ledger.com download page | .exe installer, publisher shown as Ledger |
| macOS | ledger.com download page | .dmg file, signed cryptographically by Ledger |
| Linux | ledger.com download page | .AppImage file |
| iPhone / iPad | Apple App Store | Developer listed as Ledger |
| Android | Google Play Store | Package com.ledger.live, developer Ledger |
No Browser Version Exists
There is no web version and no browser extension that installs Ledger Live. Any site offering to “run Ledger Live in your browser” is fake.
Installing Ledger Live on Your Computer
- Download the
.exeinstaller from ledger.com. - Double-click it. When Windows asks for permission, check that the verified publisher is Ledger. If it says “Unknown publisher,” stop and delete the file immediately.

- Download the
.dmgfile from ledger.com. - Open it and drag the Ledger app into your Applications folder.
- Launch it from Applications. macOS checks the developer signature; it should belong to Ledger.

.AppImagefile from ledger.com. - Make it executable (right-click → Properties → allow executing, or
chmod +xin a terminal). - If your device is not detected over USB, you may need to add Ledger’s udev rules, as described in Ledger’s own support documentation.

Device-Only Recovery Phrase Rule
If you restore a wallet, the 24 words go only into the Ledger device itself, using its physical buttons or touchscreen. Never type them into the computer, phone, a website, a chat or a “support” form.
Why Unofficial Downloads Are Dangerous
Copycat installers often look identical to the real thing. What they do:
Steal your recovery phrase
A fake app asks you to “verify” or “sync” your wallet by typing 24 words. The real app never does that.
Install malicious background malware
Bundled code can log keystrokes, monitor screen activity, or scan your local files for private credentials.
Swap addresses via clipboard hijacking
Clipboard malware replaces a cryptocurrency receiving address you copied with the attacker’s address in milliseconds.
Cause irreversible loss
Once funds move on-chain, no company, bank or exchange can pull them back. Prevention is your only defense.
Red Flags to Watch For
-
A search ad ranks above ledger.com: Cybercriminals frequently buy sponsored positions on search engines to direct traffic to clone sites.
-
Archive or compressed file delivery: The download arrives as a
.zip,.rar, or is hosted on a public cloud file-sharing service. -
Screen prompt for recovery words: The app asks for your 24 words on your computer screen or phone keyboard.
-
Direct messaging links: A message on Telegram, WhatsApp, or Discord from “Ledger support” offers an emergency download or sync link.
-
Physical or email re-validation notices: A paper letter or email claims your wallet must be “re-validated” or “KYC verified” to continue working.
Remember the core rule: Ledger never asks for your recovery phrase. Always confirm receiving addresses on the device screen, not just in the app.
FAQ About Downloading Ledger Live
Is Ledger Live free to download?
Yes. Anyone charging for the download is not Ledger. The official app is completely free from ledger.com.
Is Ledger Live the same as Ledger Wallet?
Yes. Ledger renamed the app to Ledger Wallet in October 2025. It is the same software and the same official sources.
Is there a web version of Ledger Live?
No. Ledger Live runs only as a desktop or mobile app. A website that claims to be Ledger Live in a browser is a phishing page.
Which operating systems are supported?
Windows, macOS and Linux on desktop, plus iOS and Android on mobile.
I already installed it from another site. What now?
Uninstall it immediately, scan your computer, and reinstall from ledger.com. If you ever typed your recovery phrase into that app, treat it as compromised: set up a new wallet with a fresh phrase on your device and move your funds to it immediately.
